The Baltimore Ravens called in other sports legends to try and keep zoom meetings interesting during the virtual zoom meetings.
Ravens defensive coordinator Wink Martindale used to be a high school teacher so he knew that he would have to find a different way to teach some of the “boring topics” they went over this offseason. Even though they weren't able to do everything in person this offseason, the Ravens were still trying to install a championship mindset.
“I wanted to make it must-see Zoom meetings,” Martindale said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. “You do get Zoom fatigue. I wanted to make it where they couldn’t wait to come to the defensive meetings. We wanted to make it an event. We wanted to build a champion mindset. That was the most important goal we had this offseason. I think we hit a home run with the speakers we had.”
Some of the speakers brought in by Martindale included Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari, NBA Hall of Famer Julius Irving, and heavyweight champion Larry Holmes.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh also brought in former players Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Steve Smith Sr. to talk to the team. The Zoom calls were good for the players, but Martindale knows that getting on the field is going to be completely different. He is excited to see everything they talked about this offseason be translated onto the field into wins.
“When we get to training camp, we’ll find out who is All-Zoom team and who can play football,” Martindale said.
