It seems as though the Baltimore Ravens will likely have veteran center Marshal Yanda for the 2019 season after all. While it was recently reported that Yanda would hang up his cleats ahead of the upcoming campaign, it now appears Yanda will be on the field for at least one more go-round.
According to a recent report from Jamison Hensley of ESPN, the Ravens expect to have Yanda in action for the looming 2019 season.
Article Continues Below“The Baltimore Ravens still expect Pro Bowl guard Marshal Yanda to play this season, a league source said on Tuesday,” writes Hensley. “There had been recent speculation that Yanda was contemplating retirement. Yanda, 34, is scheduled to make $7 million in the final year of his contract. At the NFL scouting combine, coach John Harbaugh said Yanda is ‘coming back and ready to roll.'”
Not only do the Ravens anticipate to have Yanda on the field; Baltimore can ill afford to lose any more players this offseason, let alone a Pro Bowler who anchors the team's offensive line.
“In regards to Marshal, we love Marshal and we'd love Marshal to continue to play for us for years,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said at Tuesday's pre-draft news conference, via ESPN. “He's a great player. He's still playing at a high level. He's a Raven. You can define a Raven and put a picture of Marshal Yanda up there and that's him.”
Baltimore reached the postseason in 2018; such an accomplishment may be a bit more difficult to achieve in 2019 with the Ravens losing a slew of talented players to free agency this time around.
