The Baltimore Ravens have officially ushered in the Lamar Jackson after committing to him as the franchise quarterback this offseason. It seems his main priority will be working on his accuracy moving forward.
Although Jackson is entering his first full year as a starter, the expectations are still high in Baltimore. According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, he is focusing heavily on improving his accuracy this offseason.
“Keeping a wide base when I’m throwing out breaking routes,” Jackson said. “Just trying to be spot-on in my accuracy. Trying to work on every attribute I can.”
Jackson's plans for the offseason should hardly come as any surprise. His accuracy has been the biggest knock on his game since he was still at Louisville. There is no question that it continued to hinder him after taking over under center.
There is no question that Jackson showed plenty of promise during his rookie season otherwise the Ravens would not have committed to him as their starter so soon. He threw for 1,201 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 695 yards and five touchdowns. While his athleticism provided a much-needed spark for the offense, his inability to pick teams apart made their approach rather one-dimensional and it came back to haunt them in the playoffs.
Jackson is always going to be capable of making plays happen with his legs. However, the 22-year-old will be able to kick things up a notch if he can find a way to improve his accuracy immensely moving forward.
