The Baltimore Ravens crumbled when it mattered most in the 2017 NFL season and, as a result, have now missed the playoffs for the third year in a row. That said, it seems the Ravens could be shifting gears toward the future.

With Baltimore in the midst of a growing playoff drought, there has been speculation that they could be looking to groom their next potential franchise quarterback. Although there is a chance that the Ravens could be in the market for a signal caller, head coach John Harbaugh does not feel it adds any pressure to starting quarterback Joe Flacco, according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun:

“I do not think that jeopardizes Joe at all,” Harbaugh said. “He is our guy, and I am excited about our chances next year having a great season, and Joe is too. If we draft a quarterback, if it turns out to be the thing we do, it is only going to make our team stronger.”

While it would be hard for Flacco to take Harbaugh's comments at face-value, the Ravens have placed tremendous faith in their starter for some time now. Their championship run in 2013 was enough to warrant Flacco a few years of cushion to bounce back into contention. However, it seems the time has come for Baltimore to start looking toward the future.

It was an underwhelming year, to say the least even by Flacco's standards. Aside from being unable to lead Baltimore into the playoffs, the former Super Bowl MVP threw for just 3,141 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
