With the 2019 NFL season rapidly approaching, the Baltimore Ravens have put an emphasis on shoring up their key pieces for the long haul. It appears fullback/defensive lineman Patrick Ricard could be the next on their radar to get paid.
According to Nick Underhill of The Athletic, the Ravens have started negotiations for a new feal with Ricard:
The Ravens have begun talking to fullback Pat Ricard about a contract extension, I’m told
Ricard signed with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent. He was eventually named the only fullback to make the 53-man roster. Of course, this is largely due to his versatile skill set on both sides of the ball.
When he is not opening running lanes, Ricard is busy trying to close them. He has shown enough consistency on offense and defense to garner ample chances to prove himself. The 25-year-old has been all over the place this preseason after registering two sacks, three tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, one pass defensed, and a fumble recovery through the first three games.
There is no question that a player like Ricard is capable of providing Baltimore with plenty of bang for their buck. This could be why the front office is so adamant about signing him to a long-term deal before the start of the 2019 campaign.
General manager Eric DeCosta has already made sure to pay cornerback Tavon Young, kicker Justin Tucker, and guard Marshal Yanda before their previous contract was up.
It will be interesting to see the type of deal a two-way player like Ricard agrees to.
