The 2018 NFL Draft is projected to feature a bevy of quarterback prospects taken early and often. However, it seems the Denver Broncos may not be among the teams that will follow through on such temptation. At least that's what NFL Insider Ian Rapoport thinks.

The Broncos have done their due diligence on every quarterback that could be taken within the top-5. But despite meeting with the likes of USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, and Wyoming's Josh Allen, Rapoport said during an interview with Andy Lindahl and Tyler Polumbus on 760 Orange & Blue that he thinks Denver will pass on a quarterback with the fifth overall pick:

“It’s interesting because, you know I think the Broncos could go a bunch of different ways. My guess is they probably do not take a quarterback. But, they also need to know — if they don’t take a quarterback — what they’d be missing. Do plans change if say, let’s say Browns go with Josh Allen at one, and then the Giants pick Barkley at two — both are perfectly viable situations. Do the Broncos try to trade up?”

Rapoport's take certainly seems plausible. The Broncos addressed their immediate need at quarterback with the signing of Case Keenum. Furthermore, general manager John Elway has been supportive of Paxton Lynch's development under center moving forward as well. If the prospect they feel is worth the pick gets taken before five, then it would not make much sense for them to pick up another quarterback they are less confident about just for the sake of doing so.

That said, the Broncos have the luxury of potentially selecting another top-five caliber player like Penn State running back Saquon Barkley or NC State defensive end Nick Chubb. Denver could also choose to trade back with a quarterback-hungry team like the Buffalo Bills in an effort to acquire more picks in the draft.
