Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans were on the receiving end of a little scare when they heard that their quarterback, Jameis Winston, was in a car accident. He may not have progressed as much as they had hoped he would last season, but injuries on or off the field are always an awful matter.
As it turns out, he wasn't injured, but it sounds like the accident was entirely his fault.
According to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, Winston rear-ended another vehicle while driving his Ford truck on Feb. 13. He was driving an F-250 and struck a Subaru Forester. Both vehicles received damages (approximately $4000 combined).
Most importantly, no one was injured.
He was able to walk away from the accident injury-free. But Winston isn’t walking away from it completely free and clear. He was cited for careless driving, a $153 fine.
This situation shouldn’t amount to anything from the NFL. But Winston is still under investigation for an alleged incident that occurred last November with an Uber driver. The driver claims he grabbed her crotch while they were waiting in a drive-thru.
He, of course, denies the accusations.
“I believe the driver was confused as to the number of passengers in the car and who was sitting next to her,” Winston said in November (via Jared Dubin of CBS Sports). “The accusation is false and given the nature of the allegation and increased awareness and consideration of these types of matters, I am addressing this false report immediately.”
The investigation is still ongoing. With as long as it took the NFL to finish the Ezekiel Elliott investigation, it's anybody's best guess as to how long this one will take.
