In the first two games of the season, Spain started at the left guard position for the Bills. However, he would be replaced by Cody Ford in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Ford is a second-year offensive lineman that the Bills selected with the No. 38 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The former Sooner is dealing with an injury of his own, but it appears he'll be active on Tuesday.
Article Continues BelowA season ago, Spain started in all 16 games in his first season in Buffalo's offense. Prior to signing with the Bills, Spain spent the first four seasons of his career with the Titans — who Buffalo is facing in Week 5. He would then re-sign with Buffalo this past offseason, inking a three-year deal.
When Spain did manage to play this season, he allowed zero sacks on 177 offensive snaps. He also committed just one penalty and was a formidable run blocker for the Bills to begin the season.
Nevertheless, it seems as if Buffalo is focused on getting Ford acclimated into their offense a bit more as the season progresses. Therefore, Spain will likely maintain a role on the bench unless Ford struggles in any fashion moving forward.
With that being said, if Ford or another interior offensive lineman struggles or goes down with an injury on Tuesday night, Spain won't be available to replace them due to a foot ailment.
