Do the Buffalo Bills have an impending quarterback controversy looming? Not so fast, my friends! Despite the National Football League franchise showing Tyrod Taylor the bench on Sunday, the Bills have already stated he will remain the starting gunslinger.
This news bit all stems from Buffalo giving Nathan Peterman some time at quarterback during Sunday’s 47-10 loss to the New Orleans Saints in dumpster duty. To be fair to Peterman, even though he played in mostly meaningless minutes, he got the team into the end zone for the only time when he hit Nick O'Leary for a seven-yard touchdown with 1:54 to play in the game.
The Bills (5-4) played awful as an entire team on Sunday. The most notable cheer came with 4:53 remaining when Peterman replaced Tyrod Taylor and then immediately hit Deonte Thompson for a 10-yard reception along the right sideline. That's why head coach Sean McDermott even had to address the issue after the game.
Taylor finished 9 of 19 for 56 yards and an interception. It wasn't only the starting signal-caller who was a relative disaster, as running back LeSean MCcoy was bottled up, finishing with 49 yards rushing and another 11 receiving.
Despite the loss, the Bills remain in the playoff hunt. Peterman might be the idea of a better quarterback to fans, but there's very little evidence that it is actually so. After all, he played for the Pittsburgh Panthers in college, and he didn't exactly lead that program to greatness.
Nevertheless, only time will tell how this entire thing shakes out. As long as Buffalo remains in the playoff hunt, it is hard to see Taylor losing his job.
