The Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars are both interested in taking Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown in the NFL Draft later this month, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
Breer notes that a lot of teams would be surprised if Brown makes it past the Panthers at No. 7 and that if he does slip past Carolina, the Jaguars will be waiting at No. 9.
While Brown isn't the flashy prospect that Ohio State defensive end Chase Young is, he is still a top prospect for interior defensive linemen and showed significant potential at Auburn.
The 21-year-old is coming off of a senior campaign in which he racked up 54 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, a pair of fumble recoveries and four passes defended.
Article Continues BelowBrown arrived at Auburn back in 2016 and had a very quiet freshman season, logging just 11 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. However, the following year, Brown's role grew significantly, registering 57 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles. He posted similar numbers during his junior campaign, finishing with 48 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
The Panthers went just 5-11 and missed the playoffs in 2019, losing nine of their last 10 games after getting off to a 4-2 start. They have failed to qualify for the postseason in each of the last two years.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars won six games, also missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
The NFL Draft will begin on Thursday, April 23 and will run through April 25.
