The Carolina Panthers had their two-game win streak ended by the Washington Redskins in Week 6. However, quarterback Cam Newton is not ready to press the panic button.

Carolina's mediocre outing on offense was magnified by their inability to throw the deep ball. According to Bill Voth of the team's official website, is not concerned with the state of the offense:

“We good. We are good. I don’t know if these questions are just kind of rubbing me the wrong way, but look, we are good,” Cam Newton said Wednesday. “Ain’t no need to worry about whatever hasn't happened or what we need to do. We don't need to change nothing. We just need to shore up some things.

“Everything was all good just a week ago, but now, all of a sudden we have one loss or a loss that we know we were capable of winning the game, then everybody wants to kind of ask questions about deep passes, ask questions about certain players.”

There is good reason for Newton to downplay their struggles. There was little concern about the offense when the Panthers were 3-1 last week, However, their recent struggles have started to put the team under a microscope.

Unfortunately for Newton, his numbers on deep passes hardly give reason for optimism. The Panthers star has completed just 1-of-14 passes that have traveled 20-plus yards. He also was rated by Pro Football Focus as the 35th-best deep passer in the league. These numbers suggest that there may be some truth to the matter.

Regardless, it is clear that the deep ball is not something that Carolina relies on. Their mantra on offense all season has been to establish the run game. It is no secret that they have been awfully good at it. They currently boast the fourth-best rushing attack with a 139.4 yards per game. They are also toting it at an impressive 5.0 yards per carry. However, they will eventually need to show that they are at least capable of going over the top in order to keep opposing defenses honest moving forward.
