Just last week, the city of Charlotte, North Carolina hosted the 2019 NBA All-Star Game, which was an incredible success, all things considered. Now, it seems like the Panthers are looking to get in on the action.

According to a report from the Charlotte Business Journal’s Erik Spanberg (via 247 Sports), the Carolina Panthers are currently exploring a bid to try and bring the NFL Draft to Charlotte, with team executives scheduled to speak with NFL senior vice president of events Peter O’Reily about what an actual bid might entail.

For the city of Charlotte, this is just another attempt at raising the profile of the city. Thanks to its huge sports presence, the city is likely looking to make itself a must-see destination for sports fans and tourists.

While the NFL Draft had normally taken place in New York City, the league has since begun to experiment with holding the event elsewhere, and so far it seems to be doing very well. The earliest the NFL Draft could be held in a city is 2021, as the 2019 NFL Draft will be hosted by Nashville, Tennessee and the 2020 NFL Draft will take place in Las Vegas.

According to the Spanberg report, leaders of Charlotte’s government have endorsed the idea, with Mayor Vi Lyles and city manager Marcus Jones lending their acceptance to the idea. Not only would the draft bring in extra tourism, but it also brings in a ton of money for a city. According to a report by Katherine Peralta of the Charlotte Observer, the economical impact of the All-Star Game could total nearly $100 million to the city, and while the NFL Draft might not bring that much, it’ll still be a nice boost for the city in many ways.

Only time will tell if Charlotte's bid is accepted, but with how receptive the city seemed to be to the NBA All-Star Game, it wouldn't be surprising to see the draft taking place there someday soon.
