The Carolina Panthers have agreed to re-sign offensive lineman Daryl Williams to a one-year deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Williams is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played just one game as a result of a knee injury he suffered in training camp, when Williams tore his MCL and dislocated his knee cap. He actually tried to return in Week 1, only to re-injure his knee.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by the Panthers in the fourth round (102nd pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He went on to play in 10 games during his rookie campaign, making two starts. Then, in 2016, Williams' role grew, as he started 12 of the 13 contests in which he participated, playing both right tackle and right guard.

The Lake Dallas, Tx. native went on to start all 16 games at right tackle in 2017 and looked to be on his way to becoming a fixture along Carolina's offensive line before his knee injury last July.

As Schefter states, this is obviously a one-year, prove-it type of deal for Williams, and if he is able to produce this coming season after the injury issues a year ago, he will be in line for a larger contract next offseason.

The Panthers won just seven games in 2018 and missed the playoffs in spite of starting the season 6-2. Carolina lost seven straight after its strong start, largely due to the fact that Cam Newton was dealing with a shoulder issue throughout the entire second half of the year. He was then shut down for the final two games of the campaign.
