The Carolina Panthers have signed tight end Christ Manhertz to a two-year contract, Manhertz'z agent told Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Manhertz played in all 16 games during the 2018 campaign, catching two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Canisius, went undrafted in 2015 but ended up getting a tryout from the Buffalo Bills. He did not make the preseason roster, but he then joined the New Orleans Saints and spent the 2015 campaign on the Saints' practice squad.

The following year, Manhertz was rewarded for his perseverance as he was promoted to New Orleans' active roster on Sept. 18, 2016. However, a month later, he was released after playing in three games.

Manhertz then landed with the Panthers that October and went on to play four contests with the team in 2016, catching one pass for 10 yards.

The New York City native proceeded to participate in all 16 games with Carolina in 2017, snaring a couple of balls for 17 yards.

While Manhertz is not much of a threat in the passing game, he is a key blocker for the Panthers, which is why they decided to give him a two-year deal before he hit restricted free agency in March.

Carolina went just 7-9 on the season, missing the playoffs. The Panthers actually got off to a great start, going 6-2 over the first half of the year, but they then went on to lose seven games in a row as quarterback Cam Newton struggled with shoulder issues.

The Panthers had made the postseason four of the previous five years before this season.
