Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey has officially been cleared for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported McCaffrey has been activated from the injured reserve list, paving the way for the All-Pro to return to action.

Christian McCaffrey has not played since Week 2, when he suffered a high-ankle sprain in a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Carolina had thought about activating “CMC” for last Thursday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, but erred on the side of caution.

McCaffrey's return could not come at a better time.

The Panthers are reeling after suffering three consecutive losses. Carolina fell to 3-5 after last Thursday's loss to the Falcons, and find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the NFC playoff picture.

Things have been sour on both sides of the ball. The Panthers averaged less than 300 yards of total offense in the last three games, while the defense has given up over 400 yards of total offense in each of the last two contests.

Backup running back Mike Davis filled in admirably for McCaffrey, and responded to a pair of tough games by rushing for 66 yards on over five yards per carry against the Falcons.

However, it is hard to replicate McCaffrey's value as a multidimensional weapon in Carolina's offense, not to mention his efficiency in the red zone.

The Panthers will hope a fully healthy McCaffrey can help propel the team to an upset over the defending champion Chiefs, who have won three straight.
