Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is launching a coronavirus relief program entitled “22 and You.”

The All-Pro is among the athletes getting involved after other NFL personnel–such as Panthers owner David Tepper and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft–donated funds, masks and other amenities to the relief effort.

The Panthers have to love their star getting involved: This is McCaffrey's message from the program's website:

Like all of you, I have been watching the COVID-19 public health emergency unfold with shock and sadness. I am moved by the heroic and selfless efforts of our frontline healthcare providers throughout the Carolinas and beyond. As such, I have decided to launch an effort to help them in their life-saving work.

I have created a program called “22 and You” to raise much needed funds for our healthcare heroes. My partners at Lowe’s Home Improvement and Bose have stepped up and donated to the program. We will be directing the monies raised to North Carolina Healthcare Foundation and South Carolina Hospital Association Foundation.

I am personally matching the commitment of these great companies and encourage people to donate whatever you can: $22, $220, or $2,200.

The Panthers might have already known that there had been over 2,000 reported cases of coronavirus in North Carolina as of Thursday morning, with 80 of the state's 100 counties having at least one confirmed case, per the Raleigh News and Observer.

Athletes across numerous different sporting platforms have stepped up to provide financial assistance to the medical field. McCaffrey of the Panthers is using his sponsors as a springboard, but he is also hoping to promote a sense of public engagement and charity in order to combat the spread of coronavirus.
