Earlier in the offseason when it was just speculation for the Carolina Panthers to trade for Baker Mayfield, Robbie Anderson was rather vocal about the potential deal. He was clearly against it and those takes resurfaced on Wednesday after the front office acquired Mayfield from the Cleveland Browns. Now, Anderson attempts to clear the air.
Shortly after the news broke of the trade coming to fruition, Robbie Anderson sent a video on Twitter. He's clearly fed up with people pointing out his possible displeasure with Wednesday's trade. Even so, he is the one that created this “narrative” for people to paint. Had he never made those comments regarding Baker Mayfield, the Panthers wide receiver wouldn't be in this situation right now.
I don’t have an issue with Baker stop tryna paint that narrative. pic.twitter.com/52GhVHget4

At the end of the day though, Robbie Anderson claims he was attempting to back up his teammate Sam Darnold. This is something we see all the time from professional athletes. They'll have their teammates back through the end, even if the franchise needs to desperately upgrade that position. Regardless, the Panthers traded for Baker Mayfield and Anderson will have to move on from Darnold.
It'll be interesting to see how this offense performs with an upgrade at quarterback. There is a sense of belief that the Panthers are a quarterback away from being a playoff contender. Mayfield isn't a superstar, but considering he is much better than Sam Darnold, the organization might be in a great spot to make some noise in the NFC South. At the very least, DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson should increase their production in the passing game.
So, with Anderson attempting to clear the air here, it likely won't be that awkward once Mayfield joins the team for training camp. If anything, it might be something the two can laugh about. Robbie Anderson's role will remain as the deep threat, which bodes well for Baker Mayfield and the Panthers in general.
