The Carolina Panthers managed to get back into the win column last week versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Unfortunately, the receiving corps will be a bit shorthanded against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday with the expected absence of Torrey Smith.

Smith has been nursing a knee injury he suffered against Philadelphia. According to Max Henson of the team's official website, he has officially been ruled out by head coach Ron Rivera:

The update certainly deals a blow to the offense. It is also unfortunate timing for Smith as he set to square of against his old team that he enjoyed plenty of success with. However, it is clear that Carolina is opting for a safer route.

Smith had taken on an integral role in Carolina's thin receiving corps. He has largely served as the No. 2 wideout across from wide receiver Devin Funchess. The veteran has registered 16 receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns this season and has done most of that damage over the past two weeks.

As a result, wide receivers D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel will likely see an increase in playing time this week. Both players have had a minimal impact on the offense this year. They have combined for 16 receptions for 244 yards and two touchdowns thus far this season. They will undoubtedly have their work cut out as they square off against a formidable Ravens defense. However, it provides them with a solid opportunity to potentially garner some more snaps moving forward upon Smith's return.
