The Chicago Bears have had a season to forget in 2021, with rumors constantly swirling regarding the Matt Nagy's status as the team's head coach. With each passing loss Nagy looks more likely to be fired at the season's end, and his latest comments suggest that even he is less than optimistic about his long-term future with the Bears. Per Ari Meirov, Nagy suggested that he's coaching under the assumption he will see out the 2021 season, but stopped short of mentioning anything about 2022.

Never in franchise history have the Bears fired a head coach during the regular season, so Nagy certainly has good reason to assume he'll finish out the year with the team, especially considering the Bears Week 16 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Still, the way he phrased his remarks suggest he's as doubtful as the rest of us that he has any job security in the long-term.

Nagy is in his fourth season as head coach of the Bears, having amassed a 33-30 record during his tenure in Chicago. After a stellar 12-4 season during his first year in charge, the team has failed to replicate that level of success, having finished with a .500 record in each of the past two seasons, and already having 10 losses to their name in 2021.

Fans in Chicago have long been calling for Nagy's firing from the organization, but it seems highly unlikely that the franchise makes a head coaching shift so late into the year. Instead, as Nagy's latest comments suggest he has already come to terms with, it appears wholly possible that the Bears will move on from him during the offseason.
