Chicago Bears first-round linebacker Roquan Smith will not join his fellow Bears rookies in reporting for the start of the team’s training camp today, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Smith, who was taken No. 8 overall and was considered among the top linebacker prospects in this year’s draft, has still not signed his rookie deal and will not report until he does, Rapoport adds.

Chicago’s veterans are set to join the rookies in camp on Thursday, July 19. The Bears will face the Baltimore Ravens in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 2.

Smith had a decorated three-year college career, where he had 252 tackles, including 20.5 for loss. He won the 2017 Butkus Award awarded to the best linebacker in college football. He had 137 tackles and 6.5 sacks that season as he helped Georgia make it all the way to the national championship game.

Smith is expected to play a big part of a Bears defense which has made great strides in the past couple of years under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. With his elite athleticism, Smith has the ability to cover a lot of ground on that side of the ball for the Bears. He will join a youthful Chicago defense which has also added the likes of Leonard Floyd and Eddie Jackson in recent years.

Apart from Smith, there are still a number of high-profile rookies from this draft class who remain unsigned. That includes six other top-10 picks, including top four picks Baker Mayfield, Saquon Barkley, Sam Darnold, and Denzel Ward.
