This season, its been a deadlocked race between the New Orleans Saints Drew Brees and the Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes. Even though both of these quarterbacks were knocked out of the playoffs by the teams now in the Super Bowl, both are very worthy of the award.
Brees this past week told Nola.com that he would not be attending the ceremonies. Mahomes will be, so this likely suggests that Mahomes will be receiving the award.

For the New Orleans Saints, the 40-year-old Brees threw for 3,992 yards with 32 touchdowns and only five interceptions. His completion percentage sat at a league-best 74.4 percent and was second to Mahomes in QBR with an 81.9 rating. Brees carried the Saints to a 13-3 record in the regular season, making it all the way to the NFC championship.
