With rookie star Joe Burrow out of commission for the remainder of this season, the Cincinnati Bengals are going with Brandon Allen at quarterback for Sunday's matchup against the New York Giants.

This news comes as a bit of a surprise, the team inserted Ryan Finley after Burrow went down with several leg injuries. Allen will start, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, while Finley will serve as a backup.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Bengals will start Brandon Allen over the weekend against the New York Giants while Finley slides into the backup role.

It’s a bit of a shocker on a Wednesday morning for the Bengals. Taylor, after all, traded up for Finley in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. But he’s gone 0-3 as a starter and has a career 45.4 competition percentage.

Burrow's injury is truly unfortunate, as he appeared to be on his way to a successful rookie campaign. Now, he's expected to be sidelined for at least nine months. MRI scans that were taken earlier this week revealed a multi-ligament knee injury, tearing both his ACL and MCL.

Through 10 games this season, Burrow threw for 2,688 yards, completing 65.3 percent of his passes. The 23-year-old racked up 13 touchdowns to five interceptions.

According to Yahoo Sports, the Bengals also hosted two quarterbacks for workouts this week after sending Joe Burrow to injured reserve.

The Bengals and Giants will meet on Sunday inside Paul Brown Stadium. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. ET, with FOX having live broadcast coverage.
