The Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals each made an intriguing move just days before their AFC Championship Game clash at Arrowhead Stadium, and each transaction involved the same player. The Chiefs released cornerback Chris Lammons on Monday, while the Bengals made sure he won't clear the waivers, as Cincinnati claimed him shortly thereafter.

The catch is that Lammons will not be able to play for the Bengals until after the Super Bowl, as noted by Field Yates of ESPN.

“The Bengals have claimed CB/core special teamer Chris Lammons off of waivers from the Chiefs. The waiver claim will officially process the day after the Super Bowl, when Lammons will be eligible to join Cincinnati. An added wrinkle of course: Bengals at Chiefs this Sunday.”

But now that Lammons is part of the Bengals, there isn't stopping anyone from imagining a world where he tries to share as much inside information about Kansas City as he can with Cincinnati.

The Bengals are trying to reach the Super Bowl for the second year in a row. In 2022, Cincinnati faced the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game and prevailed via a score of 27-24 at Arrowhead Stadium. It's the same path they will have to take this time around to successfully defend their AFC crown.

Lammons rarely appeared for the Chiefs' stop unit in the 2022 NFL season as he usually got on the field as part of Kanas City's special teams. Lammons only played in 19 defensive snaps and 322 special team snaps back in the regular season.
