New Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow is already putting the nose to the grindstone as he hopes to revitalize a franchise.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Burrow has been “studying the Bengals' offense for weeks now” and “he is so far ahead” that he should be able to challenge for the starting quarterback spot immediately.

Of course, the Bengals were not drafting Burrow to be a backup. Sure, longtime starter Andy Dalton is technically still under contract, but this is undoubtedly the birth of a new era in Cincinnati.
But what Schefter's report does make clear is the Bengals had Burrow locked in at the No. 1 spot for some time. Cincinnati maxed out their time with Burrow and never wavered in their desire to draft him. The Bengals also rebuffed multiple trade inquiries from the Miami Dolphins.
The Bengals set about to finding Burrow some help in the second round. They drafted former Clemson star wideout Tee Higgins with their first pick on Friday.
Cincinnati has plenty of talent at the skill positions. Higgins will line up opposite A.J. Green, with Tyler Boyd and burner John Ross filling out the receiving corps. Plus, Burrow can hand the ball of to Joe Mixon, who is also capable of being a receiver out of the backfield.
Naturally, it should serve Burrow quite well to have studied the offense well ahead of time. He will have familiarity with concepts by the time training camp rolls around, and it might be easier to get up to speed with his future teammates as a result.
