The Cincinnati Bengals are working out wide receiver DaMarkus Lodge on Thursday according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Bengals played John Ross on the injured reserve list with a shoulder injury on Wednesday, so they are in some need of wide receiver depth.

Lodge went undrafted out of Ole Miss in April and spent the offseason with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being waived on cutdown day.

During his days with the Rebels he wasn't a standout but he was a very nice player making 24 starts and catching 122 passes for 1,790 yards, and 11 touchdowns.

Heading into the draft some believed he would be drafted in the second day so it was a bit shocking no team took a flier on him.

Mike Detillier, author of Mike Detillier’s Draft Report gave the following analysis of Lodge heading into the draft.

“Lodge has a tall, thin frame and a huge wingspan to reach out and make a grab,” Detillier writes via therebelwalk.com. “He is a really good athlete who is agile and flexible to make a grab,” he adds.

“DaMarkus has good foot speed and quickness. He has a knack for making a grab and then quickly running up the field after the reception. Gets into and out his cuts and breaks quickly and he gets good separation downfield. Lodge has very good hand-eye coordination, and he adjusts well to difficult grabs.“

This is a rebuild for the Bengals so it would make sense for them to take a flier on a guy who was solid in college.
