The Cleveland Browns refused to go down without a fight on Monday night versus the Baltimore Ravens, going back and forth with the reigning AFC North champions. Following Monday night's thrilling contest, Baker Mayfield spoke about Cleveland's ability to keep up with Baltimore.
“We know that we can fight,” Mayfield said, via Daryl Ruiter of WKRK. “We just have to make the critical plays when we need to and just put ourselves, like I keep saying, in a position to win. We are going to use it in a positive way. I know this team. I know the guys in this locker room. I know the staff. We are going to handle it correctly.”
Late in the fourth quarter, the Browns came back from a 34-20 deficit to take a 35-34 lead. Then, with under two minutes remaining, Cleveland would tie the game at 42, only for the Ravens to win the game on a 55-yard field goal by Justin Tucker.
Despite losing the game, Mayfield believes it is a positive sign to see the Browns fight in a game where they faced a dougle-digit deficit.
“We just have to build on the fact that this team fights,” Mayfield said. “I am really proud of this team for fighting. That is what I would take out of this game, but we just have to be better.”
Even after losing on Monday night, Cleveland is positioned to make the playoffs and they could post their first 10+ win season since 2007. After their narrow loss to the Ravens, the Browns and Mayfield will look to get back in the win column against the New York Giants in Week 15.
