The Cleveland Browns have an interest in Mike McCarthy and are expected to request permission to schedule an interview with him, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Sportsline released a list of coaches with the best odds to be the Browns' next head coach, and McCarthy is the odds on favorite at +300. Others on the SportsLine list include Josh McDaniels, Ron Rivera, Urban Meyer, Kevin Stefanski, and Matt Rhule.

It would make a lot of sense for McCarthy to be on a shortlist of candidates for the job, and it probably would make a lot of sense for him to want this particular position, too.

The Browns need a coach who can take Baker Mayfield from being a below-average or average quarterback to being good or elite. McCarthy did great things with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers during his time with the Green Bay Packers. If the team believes McCarthy is that guy, they should do everything in their power to hire him.

For McCarthy, this is a great job because it's not a true rebuild if they can get Mayfield to take the next step forward. There is a lot of talent on the roster and they appear to be a good coach away from getting back into the playoffs. If McCarthy can lead the Browns to success, it would only add to what has already been an impressive coaching career.
