Believe it or not, the Cleveland Browns have won two games this year, and tight end David Njoku attributes their improvement to their “fight”. Njoku says the Browns want to win more this season. They have a 2-2-1 record, and their young quarterback, Baker Mayfield, just recorded his first win as a starter. The team went through a complete reboot this past offseason, and it looks like they're yielding the results the set out to achieve.
“Last year I didn’t see the fight that we have this year,” Njoku told NBC Sports. Our team has definitely bought in, and locked in during the game, and I’m just so happy to see that during crunch time, the fourth quarter and overtime. It’s great to see for sure.”
David Njoku also believes Baker Mayfield has played a big role in the team's transformation. He has led the team to both of their wins this season. The first won came after Tyrod Taylor went down with a concussion in Week 3. Since Mayfield took over, the entire roster seems to have more energy.
“Baker’s doing a tremendous job obviously and everyone’s just buying in, doing the best they can and not quitting until the clock hits zero-zero,” Njoku said. “He’s a huge competitor. We’d see him in practice working extremely hard. . . . The kid loves to compete.”
Njoku is a second-year player. He caught four touchdowns as a rookie last season. He hasn't connected with Mayfield for a touchdown yet, but he has recorded 20 receptions for 120 receiving yards. The Browns have a tough matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6. However, they're hopeful that they can ride their momentum to more wins in the near future.
