Following an extended absence to keep himself on track in his recovery in his personal life, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has returned to the team over the weekend.

In light of that, head coach Hue Jackson has voiced that Gordon will be back on the practice field in the near future, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

The return of Gordon is a significant step forward as it brings back in the fold one of their primary weapons in the passing game that could form a dynamic duo alongside Pro Bowler Jarvis Landry this upcoming season. The Browns are counting on him to play a prominent role in the offensive game plan as possibly the No.1 receiving option.

The 27-year-old proved last season that he has plenty left in the tank to play at an elite level with the same level of physical burst and playmaking ability that he had prior to his extended absence for violating the league's substance-abuse policy that put him out of the league for a couple of years.

In five games played last season, he demonstrated that he can still play at an elite level making 18 catches on 43 targets for 335 receiving yards and a touchdown. This made it clear that he could get back on the map as being one of the game's top wide receiver given the opportunity to play an entire season.

Gordon has already been declared out for preseason action this week, which was expected given that he has been off the practice field for the last few weeks and needs to get back into shape. These next couple of weeks will likely be used to help him get back to that point as much as he can prior to the start of the regular season. Nonetheless, Gordon is finally back in the fold to help contribute in a major way to push the Browns finally in the right direction in 2018.
