The Cleveland Browns will interview Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus for their head-coaching job on Sunday, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.
What a weekend for Eberflus.
First, he saw his defense hold the Houston Texans to seven points in a 21-7 victory in the AFC Wild Card Round on Saturday. Now, he will be getting set to potentially earn a job as a head coach.
Eberflus probably should temper his expectations, however, as he is just one name on a long list of candidates for the Browns' head-coaching vacancy.
Heck, in addition to Eberflus, Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni is also of interest to Cleveland.
Eberflus is in his first year as Indianapolis' defensive coordinator. Oddly enough, his first NFL job actually came with the Browns back in 2009, when he was hired as the linebackers coach, a post he held for two years.
After his short tenure in Cleveland, Eberflus moved on to the Dallas Cowboys, where he served as linebackers coach from 2011 through 2017, also taking on the responsibility of passing game coordinator during his final two years with the team.
Before his time in the NFL, Eberflus coached on the collegiate level, serving as Missouri's defensive coordinator from 2001 through 2008. Before that, he spent time with Toledo, where he coached in various positions for nine years.
The Browns went 7-8-1 this season, marking their best finish since they won 10 games all the way back in 2007. Cleveland has not made the playoffs since the 2002-03 campaign, representing the longest active drought in the NFL.
