Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett cracked the NFL Top 100 for the first time in his career, following the 2018 season. After earning a Pro Bowl nod by tallying 13.5 sacks, 29 QB hits, 12 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and 44 total tackles, the players voted him in as the 49th-best player in the NFL. Garrett isn't too pleased with the result.
Myles Garrett only needed five words to respond to his ranking, which he took to Twitter. Those words:
Lowest I'll ever be again.
Longtime Browns linebacker Christian Kirksey offered insights into Garrett's mindset after the list reveal. He told Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot:
Article Continues BelowI think he was just No. 49 in the Top 100, which kind of pissed him off. He’s definitely working, and he’s going to get everything he wants.
Now entering year three in the NFL, the former No. 1 overall pick has that much more motivation to exceed expectations. By all accounts, he's been exactly what the Browns drafted him to be. Entering 2019, he doesn't just have aspirations to be better on the NFL Top 100; he's on Defensive Player of the Year watch, despite being only 23 years old.
Luckily, the Browns have given Myles Garrett the tools needed to thrive in 2019. The limiting influence of Gregg Williams is gone, and the roster is better. Interior lineman Sheldon Richardson should take some pressure off the former Texas A&M standout. Edge rusher Olivier Vernon will force offensive lines to stop doubling up Garrett. In all, Garrett may very well achieve his goals, so that No. 49 will be the lowest he'll ever place on the NFL Top 100.
