The Cleveland Browns had interviewed numerous candidates for the head coaching job, but they ultimately decided to promote offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens to the position. The Browns had also interviewed former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy as well. Cleveland had very strict plans for head coaching candidates aside from Kitchens, but the plans were definitely centered around Kitchens.

McCarthy had a fantastic run with Green Bay before getting fired earlier this season, but it appears the team was overly impressed with Kitchens' efforts in transforming the offense. It's apparent that Freddie Kitchens was in the Browns' plans no matter which candidate they chose as their head coach.

Although Kitchens was named the Browns head coach on Wednesday, it's apparent he was going to have a lot of responsibilities regardless. Kitchens drastically turned the offense around after taking over offensive play calling duties back in Week 9.

After Cleveland showed former head coach Hue Jackson the door after a tough loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the entire team did a complete 180. The offense, led by rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield, was particularly impressive as the rookie looked like a seasoned vet courtesy of Kitchens' play calling.

The Browns have an incredibly bright future with Kitchens as their head coach. Players seem to love and respect him, but it's clear that the team was drastically better after Kitchens had more involvement with the team. The Browns could very well continue to build upon their impressive second half in the 2018 season.
