The Indianapolis Colts got their first win of the season at the expense of the Cleveland Browns in Week 3. While backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett looks to have improved his play under center, the Colts would still rather have their star quarterback, Andrew Luck, calling the shots.

Luck, who's recovering from an offseason shoulder surgery, was expected to return to practice ahead of schedule this week (per ESPN's Chris Mortensen). Unfortunately, the three-time Pro Bowl selection was ruled out of team practice again on Wednesday.

The uncertainty surrounding Luck's comeback has become a worrisome matter for the Colts fanbase. Perhaps a medical expert on the matter can shed more light regarding the 28-year-old's timetable.

Dr. David Chao, who previously served as an NFL head team doctor and is now one of the league's medical analysts, believes that Luck's return to action could be longer than expected.

Chao wrote an in-depth analysis on Luck's injury for the San Diego Union-Tribune, stating that the signal-caller would need at least four weeks of practice before he can take the field. Thus, Luck's return would likely be pushed back to the first week of November at the earliest.

The Colts would be wise to heed Chao's advice, as Luck's superior talent under center is hard to replace; not to mention that the former Stanford standout was just granted a massive six-year, $140 million contract last year.

On the other hand, head coach Chuck Pagano's job is also on the line following his team's lackluster 8-8 records for the past two seasons, and that's even with Luck seeing considerable amounts of playing time then. In turn, Pagano may opt to start Luck ahead of schedule regardless, but at the risk of losing his job.
