The Dallas Cowboys are a team with a potentially bright future. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott are the new dynamic duo for America's Team while some of the older veterans might be on their way out, including wideout Dez Bryant.

Bryant's future with the team remains up in the air. The veteran wide receiver is unwilling to take a pay cut for next season meaning the Cowboys could simply part ways. A more telling sign of Bryant future in Dallas might be comments made by the owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, via Clarence Hill Jr. of Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“Well, I think Dez is right. We need more from Dez. We need bigger plays,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “That's obvious to everybody is we didn't get big plays. I don't know that you ever get enough of them, but we certainly didn't get the amount that we have to have to change our fate here. And, so, I agree with him. We need to have bigger plays. There's a lot into that, but we've got to get more from — he's top player on our team. He certainly expects to make big plays, the expectation for Dak (Prescott) to get him the ball is there. We've gotten used to it. Yeah, we need more from that area.”

When locked in and playing up to his potential, Bryant is without a doubt one of the best receivers in the league and arguably in the same category as Antonio Brown and Julio Jones. On the flip side, when Bryant isn't playing up to his potential, he's one of the most overpaid players in the NFL and can be a distraction in the locker room.

With Jones wanting more from Bryant and the 29-year-old unwilling to take less than the $12.5 million he's owed next season, the Cowboys may ultimately move on from the Oklahoma State product and use that money elsewhere. Bringing back a player that has underperformed at that price seems like a gamble, especially with Dallas being a team that could compete in 2018.
