While he has yet to make a definitive decision, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is strongly considering calling time on his illustrious NFL career in order call NFL games as a television analyst. If Witten does follow through with that plan, he would join fellow Cowboy greats Troy Aikman and Tony Romo in the TV booth.

When asked by Mark Lane of DFW’s WFAA about how Witten would do in broadcasting, the two former Cowboys quarterbacks believe he has what it takes to succeed in that field.

“He’s presented with a heck of an opportunity,” Aikman said. “Yeah, he could play another year, maybe another couple of years. But this opportunity to go into broadcasting and continue with a really great career post-career is pretty exciting. So, that’s a decision that he has to make as to what’s most important to him.”

Romo actually took it a step further by saying Witten can succeed in just about anything he does — whether it’s TV or anything else in life.

“Jason Witten will do good at whatever he does,” Romo said. “Ultimately, whatever he puts his mind to, he’s going to be good at it. Even if he didn’t start out too good, he’s going to be good. I actually expect him to start off really good, but it really wouldn’t matter. It would only be a matter of time before he excelled at it. Like all walks of life, he’ll figure it out.”

While the average NFL fan would have very little idea how Witten would do as an analyst, it should at least count for something that ESPN is offering him such a prestigious job despite no experience whatsoever. The endorsements of respected broadcasters such as Aikman and Romo should also be points in Witten’s favor.

But if Witten approaches his TV gig with the same level of professionalism that he’s shown throughout his 15-year NFL career, chances are he will be just as good as Aikman and Romo expect him to be.
