The Dallas Cowboys got shut down on Sunday night against the New Orleans Saints. They were held to 10 points and could not get their offense going all night. This was their first loss after opening up the season against three easy opponents.
They will not face their second straight test in the Green Bay Packers. With the way they played against the Saints, the Cowboys will struggle to beat anyone.
Here are three adjustments the Cowboys must make if they want to get back on track.
3. Play Cowboy Football
This sounds extremely vague and corny but the Cowboys play a brand of football that is their own. They run the football to set up short-yardage situations while giving Dak Prescott easy throws in the pocket. If they roll him out, receivers are usually open.
When they take on the Packers, Dallas needs to make life easy for Prescott if they want to win. He finished 22-33 for 223 yards against the Saints.
Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will have to come up with a game plan to confuse the Green Bay defense and get his quarterback in space using his legs. The Saints controlled the game on Sunday night and the Cowboys struggled because of it.
Early on, expect the Cowboys to try and grab control of this game.
2. Run the Football
Article Continues BelowPlain and simple, run the football. Ezekiel Elliott is one of the best running backs in the league. He was shut down against the Saints averaging just 1.9 yards per carry. He had 18 carries for 35 yards in their loss.
Elliott received his contract in the offseason because Dallas knows that he is the heartbeat of their team.
The Packers are allowing 142.2 yards per game. The Cowboys are ranked fifth in the league in rushing yards per game. It all begins with Elliott for the Cowboys. It is obvious. He will get a massive workload against the Packers.
1. Get Stars Involved
The Cowboys have three-star players on offense in Elliott, Prescott, and Amari Cooper. All of which struggled against the Saints. This was Cooper's first game without a touchdown all season. He finished with five catches for 48 yards in New Orleans.
The Packers allowed four catches to Eagle wide receivers in Week 4. Zach Ertz had a big game but the Cowboys do not have a dynamic tight end like Ertz. What they do have is one of the best running backs and receivers in the game.
Cooper and Elliott will both need to be featured a lot if they want to take down Green bay.
