Dak Prescott’s next two pass attempts could mean history. Assuming that the sophomore Dallas Cowboys quarterback connects on his first two throws in Week 2’s showdown with the Denver Broncos in Mile High City, Prescott would set the new league record for the fewest picks thrown by a quarterback in his first 500 pass attempts.

Prescott helped Dallas take down the rival New York Giants in Week 1, passing for 268 yards and a touchdown without an interception in a 19-3 victory. This isn’t Prescott’s first crack at breaking a record in the NFL, however. Last year, he broke Tom Brady’s mark for consecutive passes thrown without an interception, as noted by ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Young quarterbacks aren’t supposed to be so precise, but as a rookie, Prescott showed the ability to protect the ball. He set an NFL record for most passes to start a career without an interception (176), passing Tom Brady, who went 162 throws without a pick for the New England Patriots in 2000-01.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Prescott wasn’t even expected to throw that many passes, let alone get this many playing opportunities up to this point, with the Cowboy still committed to starting quarterback Tony Romo at the time. But, an injury to Romo in the preseason opened the door for Prescott, who seized the opportunity and has never lost grip of it ever since.
