The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most historic franchises in the NFL. They have a long list of legends who have played for the team over the years. One of them was Don Perkins, who was a fantastic running back for Dallas back in his day. However, the former professional football player passed away on Friday.
According to Pro Football Talk, “Don Perkins, who is in the Cowboys' Ring of Honor, has died, the team announced. He was 84.” The former Dallas star proved to be the driving force for the franchise from 1961-1968. He played a vital role and set the tone for the run game throughout his career.
During his tenure with the club, Don Perkins recorded a total of 6,217 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns. Both of which rank fourth-most in franchise history. In 1976, the Cowboys inducted Perkins into their Ring of Honor for his efforts on the field, per Pro Football Talk. Fans will remember him for his greatness on the field and his family will remember him as a loving father and grandfather.

According to NFL.com, “the shifty, 5-foot-10 running back first made a name for himself at the University of New Mexico. Perkins was a two-time All-Skyline Conference selection and finished his collegiate career with 3,466 all-purpose yards. He led the nation in kick return average with 34.7 yards per return in 1959.”
The former Cowboys legend lived a full life. May he rest in peace.
