All 32 teams in the NFL have their chance to sign any players that were released from other teams to their practice squad. According to Michael Gehlken, the Dallas Cowboys are signing former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Clayton Thorson to their practice squad.

Thorson was selected by the Eagles in the fifth round of this year's draft. Coming out of Northwestern, Thorson was a raw prospect that needed some experience in a pro-style offense in the NFL.

At the beginning of the preseason, Thorson was competing for the team's third-string quarterback spot.  Carson Wentz and Nate Sudfeld were locked into the team's top two spots. In Philadelphia's preseason opener, Sudfeld suffered a wrist injury that would require surgery. Sudfeld will likely miss some time to begin the regular season.

As a result, the Eagles gave veteran Josh McCown a call and convinced him to come out of retirement. McCown's arrival to the team made things even tougher for Thorson's chances to make the team. It didn't help that Thorson ended the preseason on a low-note with 86 yards on 26 passing attempts and an interception.

Along with Thorson, Cody Kessler was also competing for a spot on the depth chart but was released prior to Saturday. Fortunately for the rookie passer, he will get a chance to remain in the NFL by joining the Cowboys practice squad.

Presently, Dallas only has two quarterbacks on their roster in Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush.

Therefore, there's still a chance that Thorson makes it on to the active roster at some point this season.
