The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the more successful teams this season and it appears a lot of the teams success has been in due part to the amped up defense in 2018. Head coach Jason Garrett gave a lot of credit to Kris Richard, who spent 2010-17 with the Seattle Seahawks. Richard has helped turn the defense around and assisted in turning them into a fantastic unit.
Garrett spoke about how great Richard has been for the Cowboys this season and endorsed the team's defensive backs coach.
“He’s done a fantastic job. Just a really, really good football coach. One of the things that we try to do, very thoughtful about, is bring a coach in on the defensive side who kind of fit with the DNA of our defense, so he and Rod and our defensive staff, they really complement each other really well. I think they believe in the same things, have the same values of what they want our defense to be. I think that’s meshed really well for us. Then, he’s brought other things – some of nuances and the details that he’s brought that maybe are different than what we’ve brought in the past have been positive additions. He’s a great teacher. He’s got great enthusiasm. Very knowledgeable. Very detailed.”
Richard could find himself amongst the list of head coaching candidates, but it's likely more experienced coaches will be ahead of him on the list. The Cowboys' defensive backs coach may see himself getting another job as defensive coordinator prior to becoming a head coach.
Richard is only 39 years old and will likely get his shot soon.
