The NFL is certainly looking to expand its market, as the league is playing more games overseas than ever before. Additionally, there have been rumblings of new franchises sprouting up as well. The mayor of Dallas, Eric Johnson, made a suggestion for his city to acquire a second team. However, Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones isn't having any of that noise.

According to TMZ, Johnson responded to an Adam Schefter tweet regarding the lawsuit filed against Los Angeles Chargers owner Dean Spanos. He apparently believes the southern part of Dallas would be a fine location for an NFL franchise. It's an interesting idea, but Jones isn't too keen on the Cowboys sharing space with competitors.

Jerry Jones went in on Eric Johnson, stating, “Well, I like the mayor. I like him personally, but he doesn’t have the depth. He doesn't have the knowledge that others have regarding how unique Dallas is and how we enjoy the interest in the Cowboys,” per TMZ. Jones goes on to say, “He wouldn't want to water that down as it relates to Dallas if he knew as much, and has spent as much time in sports as I have.”

The Cowboys' owner essentially believes that a second franchise in Dallas would result in a negative impact on the league in general. He might have a point, as his team is regarded as the most expensive organization in the NFL. They have an estimated worth of $6.5 billion and based on the deal the Denver Broncos were sold for, Jerry Jones could likely reel in more than the estimated cost of his team.

So, for now, it sounds like Dallas will remain with one NFL franchise. However, Eric Johnson may fight Jerry Jones on this idea. Keep an eye on the Cowboys, as another NFL franchise may join the city in the future.
