The Dallas Cowboys have high hopes this season. Unlike many years in recent memory, that is because of the Cowboys defense. The offense, led by Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and CeeDee Lamb gets a lot of the attention and praise. But for the first time in over two decades, it's the Cowboys defense that has carried the team.

A big part of the defense has been standout rookie linebacker Micah Parsons. Parsons seemingly makes history on a weekly basis. Last week against the Washington Football Team, Parsons recorded his 13th sack of the season.

It was later announced that Parsons won the defensive rookie of the month award for the second consecutive month. Parsons is getting close to breaking the rookie sack record held by “The Freak,” Jevon Kearse. Kearse recorded 14.5 sacks for the Tennessee Oilers back in 1998.

It was the 2nd year for the team in Tennessee, but they did not adopt the nickname “Titans” until the following season in 1999.

Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Gehlken quoted Parsons on what it would mean to break Kearse's record, as reported by NBC Sports' Josh Alper

“It is on my mind. Obviously, that would be an extraordinary thing to do for a guy that’s an off-ball linebacker. It would really mean a lot to me. I know I can do it,”

Parsons has been so dominant this season, he has even garnered some attention for Defensive Player of the Year. Fellow Cowboys teammate Trevon Diggs is also in that discussion. Diggs has 11 interceptions this season, four more than any other player in the NFL.
