The Dallas Cowboys have spent most of the 2018 NFL season trying to beef up its receiving corps. It appears that has not changed with two games left to go as they have expressed interest in free agent wideout Sammie Coates.

Coates was recently cut by the Houston Texans. According to Calvin Watkins of The Athletic, the Cowboys brought him in for a work out:

Coates has struggled to find his footing in the league as of late. He was originally taken in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He struggled to etch out a role for himself amidst the emergence of wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. As a result, he was ultimately traded to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a sixth-round pick. Coates has since rarely seen the field following brief stints with the Browns and Texans.

The Cowboys receiving corps enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in the second half of the 2018 campaign with the arrival of Amari Cooper. They are hoping to also have wide receiver Tavon Austin back in the lineup after dealing with a groin injury. Unfortunately, their interest in Coates indicates that he is not ready for a return just yet. Much like Austin, Coates possesses game-breaking speed that could help take the top off defenses. However, he is a much bigger target than the pint-sized speedster at 6'2″.
