The US Open is a little less than a month away, and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo won't be playing in it. The US Open doesn't give sponsor exemptions to players trying to get into the event, so Romo had to try and earn his way in.
On Monday, Romo shot a 3-over 74 in a local qualifier, according to Todd Archer of ESPN, which was three strokes off a qualifying spot.
Tony Romo will not advance to sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open after shooting a 3-over 74 in the local qualifier at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, on Monday. He missed the chance for one of the eight spots available to advance by three strokes. He said he hopes to…

This is another disappointing development in a week that has been filled with disappointments for Romo. Last week he competed in the AT&T Byron Nelson but missed the cut. Even after missing the cut, Romo said he was encouraged by the way he played.
“I think more than anything, I got a sense to be able to hit a lot of high-quality shots under what is a pressure situation for me,” Romo said via ESPN. “That's encouraging and shows that the work you're doing holds up when it counts. And from there, you just got to find the little things that allow you to keep things going and not derail a round. Just small stuff, technique-wise, but we're coming on.”
Romo hopes to play in the Mid-Amateur and Northeast Amateur tournament later this summer and will also try to defend his title at the American Century Championship in July.
If he can have success in these events look for Romo to try and get some more exemptions to play in PGA Tour events in the next few years.
