Most experts consider the Dallas Cowboys‘ offensive line as the best in the NFL. Unfortunately, that title has taken a hit with the loss of guard La'el Collins.

On Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told David Helman of DallasCowboys.com that Collins and the organization have elected for him to have surgery on his toe. As a result, he will go on injured reserve.

There is concern that he'll be out beyond the eight week IR minimum, possibly for the entirety of the season.

Collins was nearly placed on IR last week, but a second and third opinion were sought out first. After taking all examinations into account, surgery was determined to be the correct course of action.

His replacement will be Ronald Leary, who lost his job to Collins when he came to Dallas out of LSU in 2015. He was a 1st round talent according to most draft boards, but an off-field controversy involving the shooting of a pregnant women who he used to date caused him to drop out of the draft altogether. Collins was not considered a suspect for the crime.
