The Dallas Cowboys had a successful season in 2018, winning the NFC East and beating the Seahawks in the Wild Card round. But major changes are also on the way.

The team already parted ways with offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, and now it looks like another longtime member of the team is on his way out. The team has “no intention” of re-signing defensive lineman David Irving, a source told David Moore of Dallas News.

“The defensive tackle becomes a free agent next month, and a source said the club has no intention of keeping him. While that could change – the Cowboys traditionally employ an open door policy even when that door appears slammed shut from the outside – it's hard to envision a scenario why it would”, Moore explained.

If this really is the end of the road for Irving in Dallas, his Cowboys tenure will have ended on a disappointing note. He was suspended for the first four games of the 2018 season, and a report came out recently that he had missed a few drug tests over the past couple of months.

An undrafted free agent in 2015, the Cowboys signed him off the Chiefs' practice squad his rookie season and he'd remained with Dallas ever since. Irving is a beast physically at 6'7 and 290, and he's still only 25, so he should still draw some interest on the open market. That being said, it's possible he's facing another suspension from the league.

Irving hardly played this past year, as he went down with an ankle injury shortly after returning from suspension. The details of his injury were always hard to come by, and the team purposely kept his status vague and unclear. He ended up appearing in only two games for the season, although he remained on the team's active roster and not injured reserve the entire time. He was very productive in 2017, notching seven sacks in just eight games. He'll likely have to settle for a one-year prove it deal wherever he lands.
