Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey was so close to being a Dallas Cowboy. The Cowboys had the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 draft with Ramsey and Ezekiel Elliott still on the board.

In an interview with Mina Kimes of ESPN, Ramsey believes the Cowboys coaches wanted to draft him. But instead, Dallas owner Jerry Jones made the decision to pick Elliott, which meant Ramsey slid to the Jaguars at No. 5.

Ramsey remains sour about that snub to this day, so much so that he vows never to play for the Cowboys “until the Joneses leave.”

In hindsight, the Elliott pick proved to be a good one for the Cowboys, who have emerged as one of the top rushing attacks in the league in large part due to Zeke.

Things have also worked out pretty well for Ramsey in Jacksonville. He made first-team All-Pro last season and has been an integral part of a top defense which has seen the Jaguars emerge as a Super Bowl contender.

Still, Ramsey considers the Cowboys’ decision to take Elliott over him as a major slight, one he doesn’t plan to forget anytime soon.

But while the Cowboys could use a star of Ramsey’s elite caliber in their defensive backfield right about now, they shouldn’t really sweat Ramsey’s proclamation that he won’t join the team while the Joneses are in town.

Aside from the fact that he won’t be hitting free agency anytime soon, the Jaguars are also unlikely to part with their star corner in a trade unless someone just blows them away with a blockbuster deal.
