As the Dallas Cowboys continue to roll, Jerry Jones continues to alter his stance on their starting quarterback conundrum.

At the beginning of the season, there was no doubt that Tony Romo would start at the position upon his return. Even as the Dak Prescott excelled early on, Jones remained adamant that Romo would start once healthy.

Then, Jones' tone changed. It started in Green Bay.

The Cowboys dominated the Packers at Lambeau Field, and Prescott was in complete control of the offense. At that point, the Cowboys' owner began backpedaling on his previous statements.

Now, after a dramatic victory over the Eagles, Jones hints that Prescott will remain Dallas' starter, even when Romo returns.

From Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News:

“You want to be very mindful of what you got going, which right now we got a lot of chemistry going,” the Cowboys owner and GM said on 105.3 The Fan's Shan and RJ show [KRLD-FM]. “That has got to be really recognized if you're making a decision.”

On Sunday, Jones announced that Prescott will start in Cleveland next week as Romo continues his comeback. Jones didn't provide any further details on Romo's health status for the time being.

He did, however, assert that Romo will be ready to play toward the end of the season:

“I know that Tony is making a lot of progress,” Jones said. “I do think that unquestionably he's going to be ready to go at some point near the end of the year. We'll be able to evaluate things at that time.”

According to Jones, Romo is willing to do whatever it takes for the Cowboys to win. That could mean sitting on the bench:

“He's a veteran,” Jones said. “He wants this team to have all the success it possibly can have. Dak feels the same way. Coaching staff, they don't need to know. We'll just play it out.

“Tony has no issue with doing what's best for the team. Absolutely no issue with doing what's best for the team.”

When Jones says the Cowboys will “just play it out,” he likely means that Prescott will continue to start as long as the wins continue to file in. Currently, they lead the NFC with a 6-1 record.

Otherwise, expect to see number nine back in the huddle with the star on his helmet.
