Ahead of Sunday's critical NFC East showdown between the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys, Skins cornerback Josh Norman is insistent that he'll be ready t0 play.

Norman has missed Washington's last two games after fracturing a rib against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he's quickly progressing toward a return to the field. He believes he can start on Sunday, but admitted that the team's physicians will make the final call.

From Rich Maese of the Washington Post:

“I said last week, ‘Today was a good day.’ It was. But I didn’t play last week. So maybe I want to change a little bit this week,” he said following the team’s practice on Thursday. “But no, again, today was a good day.

“It feels a little sore, but that comes with the territory of that injury. But it felt fine. I don’t see any problems or reason why I can’t [play].”

Along with the heated past between Norman and Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant, Sunday's matchup could have a big impact on the playoff race in the NFC. Dallas and Washington both boast 3-3 records, right in the middle of the conference standings as the season half of the season approaches.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden spoke on the budding rivalry between Bryant and Norman, who actually both appeared in a Samsung commercial this offseason playing up their not-so-warm feelings for each other. More from Maese:

“It’s a great rivalry,” Redskins Coach Jay Gruden said. “I think those are two very competitive guys and their personalities are probably similar. I don’t know Dez, but they seem like they are very similar, very fiery guys. [They] want to win, want to produce, want to be in the limelight and make plays and they both have done that in their careers.”
