Heading into another season in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is expected to take on a prominent role in the passing game.
However, this offseason was a bit different as there was some chatter that the team had considered parting ways with Thomas to save some salary cap space. According to Lindsay Jones of USA TODAY Sports, Thomas has ramped it up at training camp by his level of involvement by taking on various roles on the practice field.
Watched Broncos practice today — it was a very good day for the offense. The WR group already looks much deeper, and they are experimenting with a lot of different groupings and formations. Demaryius Thomas is working everywhere, including as the Z receiver for the 1st time.

It is clear that Thomas is looking to take on any role that is handed to him to show that he's still a vital asset in the passing game for the Broncos. He has proven that throughout his career stepping in as the top receiving option behind his consistent production. Although he fell just short of 1,000 receiving yards with 949 yards on 83 receptions in the 2017 campaign, Thomas had reached that mark in the five previous seasons while reaching double-digit touchdown receptions three times over that stretch.
Article Continues BelowWhat should be noted is that he's in the fourth year of his five-year, $70 million deal that runs through the 2019 campaign. There was some slippage in his production, but that was likely due to the lack of stability under center last season that led to notable struggles on that side of the ball.
The Broncos are set to have a new-look offense with Case Keenum under center that should see a different approach for the team. Thomas will factor significantly into the equation as a huge asset for Keenum alongside fellow former Pro Bowl wideout Emmanuel Sanders that could see them form a formidable duo in the passing game that may help lift the team back into playoff contention.
In the meantime, Thomas has his focus on showcasing his worth in training camp with his willingness to take an increased role to line up in various spots on the field for the betterment of the team.
